I've seen a lot of games that use that mechanic really well, but I've also played Mass Effect 3. Let's see what we get here.It was Mass Effect. But honestly, the game really does suffer from Mass Effect Syndrome; that is to say, your choices don't matter nearly as much as the game would like you to believe. As of now, there are four endings you can get. You can play through without knowing what you're doing until the final day, beat King Mardokh, and save the world, but not the Moon. That, or you can spec into seduction and seduce King Mardokh, ruling over the land as you see fit. Your third option is to let King Mardokh beat you in the final boss fight and establish his Sun Empire. Your final option, and the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t way to possibly get a 'good' end, is to discover that the very first NPc tells you the name of one of four random goddesses, and you are supposed to figure out that they each correlate to a direction. Travel in that direction, and you will discover King Mardokh before he was prepared to fight you. Before you do THAT, though, you must step on a series of tiles in the correct order to please the moon goddess or whatever and make her stop the boss fight half way through so everyone can hold hands and sing Kumbayah. These four endings, save for exactly one, are based off of the character choices you make in-game. The four endings are solely based on your skill to determine what is happening in the game. Which, by the way, the game doesn't help you with at all. Your first few runthroughs probably felt pretty similar because of how bad the game is at telling you things you need to know, in fact. Most players would assume that the advice literally given to you by every single village leader (to find a moon priest) would be of some significance, right? Surely the game is telling you that you should figure out how to talk to animals over and over and over again means that you need that skill to progress, right? Surely there's some significance behind the random appearance of consistent places like the Great Tree or Desert Village, right?Wrong.Therein lies my biggest problem with the game. I would be willing to look past what everyone seems to think is this game's critical shortcoming (the personality traits meaning nothing) if the game at least promised to be what it was advertised as- a rogue-lite. Maybe not in the traditional 'upgrade-to-progress-with-every-run' way, but in a fresh take on the genre. Every run should have theoretically provided you with the knowledge of what to do right on your next run. The operative word, however, is theoretically. In reality, none of the things you need to know in order to get the 'good' ending are ever told to you, explicitly or otherwise. As far as I know, it's never even hinted at. Because it literally failed to be a roguelite as a result of its incompetent storytelling (which is ironically its biggest theme), Moon Hunters ultimately boils down to a 90-minute roguelike that has no variety between runs, no potential for actual storytelling, overhyped mechanics that don't add nearly as much to the game as they should, and a boring, repetitive combat system made worse with wildly unbalanced characters.Long story short? It doesn't feel complete, and the developer shows no intention of improving upon it. If he/she cared to add a few endings based on your character traits (or even just put in hints about how to get the actual ending like it was supposed to be), the game would instantly be worth a lot more.Short story even shorter? 3.5/10 would not hunt the moon. A cute, stylish game, that is explored and unlocked through multiple playthroughs. If you like overheard 360 beat-em-ups/slash-em-ups with light RPG elements, then go right ahead and give this a try.>Collect currency>Upgrade skills>Fight the bosses>Multiple classes to suit your playstyle(s)>Unlock more content each time you play>A good mix of casual gameplay w/ a bit of action>Great for chilling with friends. (E.g. Currency picked up is added to players, like MvM, so don't worry about being too greedy.)Also, 4-player Co-Op. Beat up some baddies and unlock the truth with friends!Definitely worth a try.(Oh, and the music. Very good, very very good!). Moon Hunters definitely feels like something a bit special. A gorgeous melding of co-op ARPG and emergent storytelling. With choices that genuinely shape your character and the world (or rather the heavens) around you.Pitched as a "co-operative action personality test RPG" it does have all those traditional RPG elements you might expect to find - Assorted class specific heroes with their own unique abilities. Character leveling and ability upgrades. And enemies (and cacti) that explode into loot if you hit them hard enough. But where the game really shines is in how it feels different each time you play.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb3gbs07yugYou play as one of 6 heroes (4 starter classes with two more unlockable characters that can be found in game) whose quest is to find out why the Moon Goddess has vanished from the land. What's more you only have 3 days to do so. As you travel across the procedurally generated world you come across random characters & objects and the way you react and interact with them not only changes your personality traits but also unlocks new characters, skins, villages and even familiars that can play alongside you. Though more importantly it helps write the legend of your greatest feats and failures in the stars above. Each playthrough is about an hour long is definitely designed to be played with friends but more importantly to be played multiple times in order to unlock everything.Admittedly the game is not perfect. I have come across a couple of minor bugs here and there (character names not appearing properly or hero skins changing mid conversation). The enemy AI can easily get caught on objects. And whilst there is a ton of content to explore the game is not infinitely replayable as you will soon get used to the various environments and start skipping encounters you've already made. That said I wholeheartedly recommend giving Moon Hunters a go. A fun adventure on your own but even better with friends.. I thought I had reviewed this game already so my memory will be a little hazy but here goesPhenomenal art to start off. Just absolutely love all the art styles this game uses. The animations are very well done as well. The story itself is not really that long, however it is a rogue like type game so the replay-ability is naturally built around different encounters and what not every run. I think for the most part there's just a few endings you can actually achieve but there's plenty of stuff to find while getting to the end.Biggest issue with the game is character balance and the beginning being sort of sluggish. I also found the cooking thing you can do to be a little much. You can only cook one new meal a night but if an event happens, you take that instead because it could give you things or open up new story arc's for you. So it will take a very long time to actually be able to finish your cookbook if you even try. There's different difficulties but for the most part the actual fighting in the game is super easy as long as you don't end up under-leveled with a weaker character.I don't wanna go around talking about small interactions and spoiling stuff so I'll just leave it at: If you have friends to play with, this game is a great co-op experience. 1000% recommended for at least one good weekend of fun. I first played this game with my buddy at his house with a couple of other guys. We had a blast. My only wish is that we could have a steam workshop to make new constellations, maps, terrain, archetypes, and spells. This game has incredible potential to be so much more, and it's fantastic already.. The game is pretty fun and we enjoyed playing it in Co-Op. But we needed to restart three times because we couldnt continue - One of our three players was stuck in loading-screen or haven't had the choice-menu and we were stuck there. Those bugs ruined definitely our game experience (even if we hadn't had those much!) and we won't start it again. We neede to restart five times in 1.5 hours accumulativ.eWe would play the game for a longer period of time, but with those bugs its impossible... Great game for local co-op, and it's very replayable. Trying time and time again to find the moon, getting a little bit better, a little further along is a fantastic way to spend the evening.. Charming game good atmosphere. Very smooth. Great soundtrack though very limited in selection. It's failing are that it draws from a very very shallow pools of random components each playthrough, so on the second playthrough 85%ish of what you see is going to be something you have already encountered. Was fun to play through twice, so expect to get something similar to my hours played of enjoyment out of it. I'd say its worth 5$ and reccomend you the reader buy it for that price when available.
